#Dam square It's a start of city center since the other parts of the city were developed based on Dam square
#National Monument
Monument for WWII. The statues symbolize suffer and new born. They have national holiday on 4th-5th May. People will celebrate here and it would be very crowded. In summer, people will gather here too!
#royal palace My guide said it looks pretty outside so it's not recommended to visit inside (typical Dutch building haah)
#The New Church
It was built in 1948, after WWII. Now it is used for photo exhibition and related cultural event.
There are 165 canals in Amsterdam and Jordaan is the richest area. Back to golden age, there was one Dutch indian trading company and they stayed here. They trade not only goods, but also slaves from their colonies by ship. Now, many expertise stayed in this area.
Unlike another area which houses are leaning aside, the houses here are leaning forward. Whatever which type of leaning, the structural problem is a concern nowadays and the government is working for solutions for that.
#Amsterdam museum
Another attractions not recommended by our guide haha. If you travel Amsterdam for leisure and stay a few days only, it is better to spend time on other attractions. Basically the walking tour will cover most of the contents mentioned in Amsterdam museum
However, it is worth to come for the walls of the museum. They are door signs used before Amsterdam had street name and number, like the teeth's sign = the house of a dentist.
Without these pins, these buildings will be collapsed
#Cathedral island
Only Catholic virgins were allowed to live here.
Fun to hear that there is a little hidden church in front of the large one.
#New market
They also called way house because it is like a money making machine in the past. Originally they had trade near the royal palace. The royal family thought it is inappropriate to have a market near their place. That's the reason why it's called new market.
Now there are many fresh seafood and cafes in the area
It's also the hub of the city. You can visit Chinese street, Jewish area, Central station and Dom Square from here.
The street with yellow building is Jewish area. It's cheaper for using yellow materials for housing so the houses in that area are relatively cheap.
*Thank you my guide Jamila, she is passionate and willing to answer any questions
She talked way a lot detailed but sometimes I took photos and didn't pay 100% attention on what she is saying haha
