Fight against the wind: South coast, Iceland

1 day

day tour

natural/waterfalls/beach/national park/game of thrones

We were being "trapped" in our guesthouse due to heavy rain for a few days. On our 4th day in Iceland, we finally managed to have excursions. But the weather was super windy that we can't even stand firm.

-30 minutes

Due to limited daylight in Iceland (daytime from 11am-4pm), it's vital to have good time management. Sólheimajökull is fast melting glacier which some ice activities take place here. To be honest, I didn't feel like much "Iceland atmosphere" during my first few days in Iceland. Reykjavik city center is cool with Christmas atmosphere but it's quite similar to other European countries. While it's snowing in some European countries like Italy or Germany, it hasn't snowed for 3 weeks in Iceland, which also make me concern more about climate change. After a small hiking, the view is marvelous and speechless. All in a white and you would feel the power of the nature.

- I'm officially in Iceland! -

It's a pity that it gonna shrink in size every year and will no longer exist in the future. The floor is quite slippery after raining for a few days. There are some glacier and ice climbing tour organised here as well, which requires safety requirement.

Filming location of Game of Thrones. The weather is so windy that we cannot even stand properly, it's hard to imagine how do they film here even in summer time. Be aware of the wave, we saw someone fall into the water and three people holding her up, so don't even try to get close to the sea.

There is a cave nearby and its even more windy. We have to walk backward because of the wind haha.

You can pick some stones to your friends as souvenirs hahha

-20 minutes

It's a national reservation park with volcano cave and lighthouse. When you think of the seaside would be the worst, the wind here can blow you away! The view is really cool but we don't manage to see a lot here because the winds tried to 'push' you. Walking a round is our limits. The information board said there are different kinds of birds but obviously no birds gonna stay here now.

#Skógafoss waterfalls

-30 minutes

Didn't manage to walk up because we got 30 minutes here. It's huge and I like how the ice got frozen and the water from waterfall falling like shower rain.

#Seljalandsfoss waterfalls

-30 minutes

Our time management is poor and there was no sunlight when we arrived. The coolest part would be walking behind the waterfall. You can walk through the waterfall but better not to do that if you don't have any waterproof items. Walking out and there is another waterfalls. There are stairs for climbing up during the daytime and we even saw someone taking wedding photos at night!
